On the seabed of the Abu Nuhas reef, four splendid ships lie side by side, sunk at different periods: Ghiannis D., Carnatic, Chrisoula K e Kimon M. A few miles away another block of hard coral reef guarantees a stupendous dive rich in fascinating encounters and marvellous colours. Moving towards the north, we find the wreck of Ulysses, an English merchant ship sunk at the end of the 1800’s. Inside the bay, under the mooring point of the boat, it is possible to dive over the remains of an old Egyptian vessel covered in Sea Fans. Going through the Gobal canal we reach the extensive reef of Sha’ab Ali, where we immerge on the wreck of Thistlegorm, an enormous English military merchant ship sunk during an air raid of the Luftwaffe and rediscovered by commander Cousteau in the 50’s.
The brother islands represent the best way we can observe the Egyptian Red Sea from underwater. We are talking about 2 little coral islands with upright walls that fall vertically into the blue, situated in the middle of the canal about 70 miles south of Hurghada. The brother islands present emotional wall dives suitable for divers with a proven experience. The constant presence of big deep-sea fish and the extraordinary concentration of Sea Fans, gorganians and black coral make this sunken environment among the most exclusive in the world.
There are also two other splendid wrecks the Numida and the Aida, which are covered with a marvellous soft coral formation. In 1996 the environment Minister declared the brother islands an protected area subject to vigorous environment protection laws. Normally the boats remain moored at the brothers islands for a minimum of 2 days. The itinerary could be subject to variations caused by weather conditions, changes are on the discretion of the captain or the guides on board at the time. In the centre of this great barrier reef a small sandy island has formed which today forms the principle element of the landscape. The dives can be carried out at any side of the reef, with the opportunity to organise numerous itineraries, all of which are very interesting, taking great care with the sea currents.
